Our little cottage is part of a small condo community in Wellfleet on the Outer Cape. It is a freestanding cottage with a beautiful view down to the tidal Drummer Cove. We get gorgeous sunsets over the water, shorebirds and ducks at low tide, and nice breezes. It’s perfect for two or three people. Simple, comfortable, and relaxing.
The condos are up a dirt road off route 6 in South Wellfleet. The street is just up from PB Boulangerie Bistro, a well regarded French restaurant and bakery. There are several cottages, and a larger building with smaller units. Our cottage has the building on one side, and woods on the other. The location is peaceful, and residents friendly and respectful.
You enter the cottage from the side, into the living room/kitchen. It has a cathedral ceiling, knotty pine walls, and sliding glass doors and big windows upon that wonderful view. The living room is furnished with a sofa and armchair.
The main bedroom has a very comfortable queen size bed with new memory foam mattress. Two dresser drawers and a hanging shelf unit in the closet will be available for your use. There is also a comfortable armchair for reading.
The second bedroom has an excellent sleep sofa, a large desk, and a tv. We have cable, internet and YouTube TV.
The kitchen is compact but very workable. New electric stove , refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, double sink, plenty of cookware and everything needed. No dishwasher. The kitchen table has four chairs and is set against the window for enjoying the view.
Outside is a deck, which has a table, umbrella, and four chairs. Near the cottage is a patio area with seating that is for anyone’s use. There is a path down to the cove, where at low tide you can walk around the cove to Blackfish Creek. At some point we will have a kayak there for use in high tide.
The Outer Cape is a unique spot, with much of it’s natural beauty protected by the National Seashore. There are gorgeous beaches both on the ocean and calmer bayside, walking trails through forest, marsh and beach areas, and interesting ranger led programs during the season. Each town also has conservation areas with trails, and nearby is the fantastic Audubon Sanctuary with yet more trails and programs. The area is a birdwatchers treat, with a busy spring and fall migration period.
Wellfleet has a charming historic village, and is known as the art gallery town. Each Cape town has its own character, with many special places to discover. Arty and funky Provincetown, Sandwich’s museums, buzzy Chatham, the pretty old towns along historic 6A. Restaurants have improved in recent years, with several excellent ones near the cottage. They’re all doing takeout during Covid, and many have inviting, well spaced outdoor dining areas.
Our favorites are Mac’s Shack (seafood, sushi, classics and more inventive) CShore, (large portions, good cooking); PB Boulangerie, (upscale French traditional), Block and Tackle (outstanding bbq and fried chicken), The Bookstore (seafood, oyster happy hour) and Mac’s on the Pier (toes in the sand at picnic tables and counter service beach shack). Winslow’s Tavern in Wellfleet center has oyster happy hour on the patio 3-5 daily. For a very special treat, book ahead for Ceraldi, an Italian influenced 6 course fixed price menu which changes daily.
We are renting the cottage only to friends this year between May 1 and November 1. Our rate is $100/night. It has electric heat, and a portable air conditioning unit. No dishwasher or washer/dryer. When we leave the cottage we air it out and thoroughly clean, and we require renters to do the same. Please bring your own bed linens and bath and kitchen towels. Upon leaving, sweep, wash down kitchen, fridge, stove and bathroom. Garbage must be disposed of in the dumpsters at the entrance to the parking lot.
We love our little cottage, and hope you will as well!
